Ejo #34 – The Experimental Ejo Challenge: Day Four (Berlin Festival 2012)

We walked the 1.7km to the incredible Templhof Park, a disused airport which makes a phenomenal festival venue. We were excited to see so many awesome acts and we were not disappointed. From the moment we “checked in” and received our “boarding passes” (festival wrist bands) we were swept up in the excitement and energy of the thousands of other revellers.

The next six hours zoomed past in a swirl of amazing music, atmosphere and jugs of free-poured Long Island Ice Teas!!! We rocked out to Little Dragon, We Have Band, Sigur Rós and Major Lazer. We finished the night with a spectacular light show extravaganza courtesy of Orbital. But the highlight, for me, was Ghostpoet who absolutely blew me away during his (sadly only) thirty minute set. And guess what: we get to do it all again today. It’s a two day festival. Woot!!!

Great crowd – Berliners know how to have a good time!!!

Ejo #34 – The Experimental Ejo Challenge: Day 3 (Here We Come Berlin)

Day 3 means we fly to Berlin. Personally I like staying in one place a lot longer than just two days when we travel, but in reality Munich was just an entry point into Germany from Dubai – Emirates Airlines, unfortunately, don’t fly direct to Berlin. But rather than just stopover in Munich for a few hours we figured it’d be nicer to stay over for a couple of days. And I’m so glad we did – I’m also thrilled that we have two more days at the end of our trip to continue our love affair of the city.

But… Berlin. Our flight was so packed that David and I couldn’t even sit next to each other. No matter, we are here now. And after a quick recon mission to check out our neighbourhood (Kreuzberg) we already love it. The apartment we are staying in is an old converted hospital. It’s just gorgeous, and the location is FAB!!! I foresee lots of adventures in the next five days.

Ejo #34 – The Experimental Ejo Challenge: Day 2 (Getting Lost In Munich)

So, at work we have these coffee vending machines. You know the type: stick some money in and get a horrible brown liquid to drink. The ones we have are from a company called Dallmayr. So of course I associate that name with… well, horrible brown liquid.

So when, in our search for a place to buy a few local delicacies, we were guided towards the Dallmayr shop, we kind of balked a little. Made some jokes about all the different varieties of sludge we could choose from. Haha! We couldn’t have been more wrong. We walked into a Delicatessen wonderland. It was bursting full of meats, cheeses, seafood (so fresh that some of it was still alive!), breads, fruit and vegetables, salads, dips, fresh pasta, cakes and pastries!! And to top it off there was a little Moët et Chandon café where you could drink the stuff by the glass. How civilised!!!

We stocked up on yummy tidbits and set off home – only to promptly get hopelessly lost. Again. We did get home eventually and enjoyed a lovely carpet picnic with a bottle of our favourite Prosecco that we’d happened upon in another amazing outdoor market. We ❤ München!!!
